Traveling in Europe has been easy while I lived in Paris or Barcelona, especially because plane tickets -if taken in advance – can be very cheap. Last November, my best friend Margaux and I decided to celebrate her birthday in Italy for 5 days.
Now, Italy definitely has my heart. I had the chance to visit Rome, Venice, Piemonte and Florence in the past, and each city/area offers a lot of different things. However, I feel that the Amalfi Coast and Napoli area would suit all types of travellers. It’s a destination that could work for a friends getaway, a romantic weekend or even a group vacation in the summer. In fact, the city of Napoli itself is big and could be the focal point of your trip but you can also go and explore around like we did!
You are starting to understand how I like to travel : I like to get the most out of the destination I visit. I am lucky because Margaux is the same and we are very good travel buddies. So in November 2018, we flew with Ryanair (For 50 euros RT each from Barcelona) to Naples, where we stayed the whole length of the trip. Taking a hotel in Napoli as a base for your day trips is something I would really recommend because it’s very central and close to everything.
I’ll summarise below our itinerary and what each day was dedicated to :
- Day 1 : Arrival early in the morning – Visit of Naples city centre (Page 2)
- Day 2 : Visit of Pompeii and the Vesuvio Crater (Page 3)
- Day 3 : Road trip along the Amalfi Coast – Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano (Page 4)
- Day 4 : Day on the island of Capri (Page 5)
- Day 5 : Visit of Naples other neighbourhoods and departure (Page 6)
We were on a budget for this trip and tried to save money most of the time. So if you’re looking for an exhaustive visit of the area without spending too much, I think you’ll like this article.
We stayed at the Rooms Stazione Centrale. A small B&B right next to the train station. It really didn’t look amazing when we booked it but we were pleasantly surprised at arrival !
The hotel was very clean and our room had a direct view on the Vesuvio. The staff was helpful, nice and available. Finally, the location was very convenient because we could walk everywhere, we were able to take the train to Pompeii early in the morning and we had the easy connections for the airport. The breakfast is basic but acceptable. Overall, it did the job for the price we paid (270 € for 1 room for 4 nights with breakfast).
