Before heading to Yellowstone, we had researched the best places to see as much wildlife as possible. The main information we gathered was that you need to go out on the hiking trails to see a good amount of wildlife and if you can’t, you should go and drive through Hayden and Lamar Valleys. Hayden Valley was really beautiful but a little too far from our hotel for us to be there at crucial times such as sunrise and sunsets. We did not witness a lot of animals there unfortunately.
However Lamar Valley ended up being a short half hour drive from our hotel. Just on the way there each morning, we were lucky to see a couple of young foxes, male mule deers, grizzly bears, black bears and a few other species such as longhorns and a bald eagle. Once onsite, around 5am or 6am, I can promise you we were not alone. Actually quite a bit of people wake up early to animal spot! We saw a ton of bisons but the most incredible sighting we witnessed was a black male wolf and a white female. We also saw a few wolf cubs from really far.
All of this incredible wildlife, in Lamar Valley and across the rest of the park, ended up being my favourite shots from the trip. I’ll share my photos below with you :
