An “off the beaten path” place for Yellowstone, this hike is not very well-known and you won’t cross a lot of hikers there. It’s short and flat and so beautiful that I would really consider going if I were you :). The hike is great for observing fauna such as rainbow trouts, bears, ground squirrels and birds. The hike can also become an overnight stay if you’d like as there are two other small lakes a little further. The initial loop around Trout Lake is only 2kms (1.2 miles) which makes for an easy trail.
The trout were spawning when we reached the little creek, which was really interesting to see. But the most beautiful views are the reflections of the mountain in the lake’s water.
Take mosquitos and bear spray!
Beginning of the trail (the only elevation) We started the loop going left A little off trail discovery Ground Squirrel Trout Lake Where the trouts were spawning And where the loop took us back

It’s amazing ! If you’ve never been to Yellowstone and plan to go, I would totally recommend this little lake at the north. Not too many people… 🙂
