3D renderings are one way to go about planning your van lay-out. A good doodle on a piece of paper works just as well obviously but we wanted to really visualize our van as much as possible.
I initially had the intention to use Sketchup and be a grown-up but I also didn’t want to pay for it. So I tried their free version and I don’t think I am very good at it. I felt it was not as user-friendly as I had hoped for. So I ended up doing a mock-up on Planner 5D. It’s not the greatest online software known to men, the options are very limited and the furniture/doors/wall you can use are not enough. But it totally did the work for what we wanted and I can now present you with our 3D renderings !
The objective is to build the following elements inside the van :
- 1 window
- 1 fan
- 1 queen size bed
- 1 50L fridge (under the seating area)
- 2 long cabinets + inside dividers
- 1 seating area + 1 table
- 1 hammock chair you can’t see here
- 1 kitchen area with a sink and counter space
- 2 x 100 watts solar panel – 1 x 200 ampH battery – 1 x 1000w inverter and 1 MPPT Charge Controller
This list will probably extend as time passes by but that’s where we stand today.
Hopefully the 3D plan will give you a better idea of where we are going :). Coming next week are the detailed articles about the window, the roof vent and the flooring.
